Whistle Buoy Brewery
Whistle Buoy Brewing is a taproom brewery located in the historic Market Square in Victoria, British Columbia. The brewery is located in a brick and beam heritage building and features two main areas. The first area is where brewmasters use locally sourced ingredients to brew exceptional beers, including Waymark's favourites, Hazy IPA and Puckerface Raspberry Sour. The second area is a gathering place for patrons to cozy up and enjoy beer and good company. In 2020, Whistle Buoy expanded by adding a large heated tent in the open-air courtyard to accommodate additional patrons and host larger events year-round.
Waymark Architecture's relationship with Whistle Buoy began over a shared love of sustainable design and craft beer. The initial design goal was to create a modern brewery and a welcoming gathering place in an existing heritage building while being as sustainable as possible. Exposing the wood timbers connects patrons to the original industrial nature of the heritage buildings. Patrons can also see into the brewing area, featuring the best available equipment for efficient water and energy use. The building also features multiple energy upgrades such as a heat pump, improved windows, and improved insulation values of walls and ceilings. The result is a welcoming taproom that features a connection with the light industrial heritage of the building while also benefiting from modernization in energy efficiency and safety feature upgrades.
