Port Alberni Childcare Centre
Port Alberni Childcare Centre
Connected to the former Rollin Art Centre, the Port Alberni Childcare Centre serves as a state-of-the-art facility designed to address a critical community need for early childhood infrastructure. The project provides 88 childcare spaces within a structure that prioritizes both occupant well-being and environmental stewardship. Supported by $4.1 million in grant funding, the design integrates into its cultural context, offering a bright and functional environment for the city’s families.
As a model for modern institutional architecture, the facility was engineered to exceed the highest requirements of the BC Energy Step Code. The layout features expansive, light-filled learning areas and an integrated multi-use space that fosters social connection and communal activity. By combining high-efficiency building systems with a durable, thoughtful design, the center establishes a new standard for sustainable construction and civic service in Port Alberni.
