Park View House

Park View House

Designed for a family of four in a traditional single-family neighbourhood, Parkview House addresses the challenge of achieving Passive House certification while remaining within an average British Columbia construction budget. Situated on a standard 50′ x 150′ lot, the residence serves a dual purpose: providing a high-performance primary dwelling and a secondary suite designed for long-term flexibility. This “mortgage helper” unit offers immediate financial support while maintaining the adaptability to transition into a space for aging parents or adult children in the future.

The architectural program for Parkview House balances professional and private life, integrating a dedicated home office to support a home-based business without compromising the acoustic or thermal comfort of the living areas. By strictly adhering to Passive House principles, the design delivers exceptional energy efficiency and indoor air quality through a high-performance building envelope and strategic solar orientation. This approach ensures that superior operational performance is achieved without significant additional up-front costs, creating a replicable model for modern, multi-generational urban living.
