The Gabion House is a single-family house for a retired visually impaired couple and has been designed to support aging in place. The building features flexible spaces that accommodate multi-generational family events and generous food production and canning facilities. Central to this project is the idea of designing for the present and the future. The Gabion House is Passive House certified and features a post-disaster structural system. Pictou Beeches is a 27-unit co-operative housing project on the harbour in Pictou, Nova Scotia. The development offers a variety of unit sizes, with a high proportion of family-sized homes and select units designed for full accessibility. Distinct from most buildings that reserve the best views for private units, Pictou Beeches is oriented so that common areas enjoy the waterfront, allowing all residents to share in the scenic harbour landscape.
